Employment – Training Requirements
Upon being hired a trooper must successfully complete training as follows:
- If not already certified, a new trooper spends 15 weeks (Paid) in the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). (More Information)
- After completing POST, approximately 100 hours of instructions with the UHP Training Section for new hires. This includes: Firearms, EVO (Emergency Vehicle Operation), self-defense, and introduction to the FTO (Field Training Officer) program.
- FTO program is performance based lasting 8 to 12 weeks.
Ongoing training requirements include:
- In-service
- Intoxilyzer
- Firearms
- Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVO)
- Radar
