You can join thousands of other nationally certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technicians help parents and caregivers properly secure their children in the correct restraint with hands-on help or quality presentations.

Child Passenger Safety Trainings are provided through SAFE KIDS and the Utah Highway Safety Office.

SAFE KIDS Child Passenger Safety Training (CPS) Certification

This course is a 32 hour Standardized Child Passenger Training that provides information pertaining to vehicle seat belts, air bags, and child safety seats. This training is for professionals from many backgrounds, such as nurses, law enforcement, fire & rescue, health educators, child care providers as well as many community members. Continuing education credit can be provided for such professional organizations as Emergency Nurses and Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) through this training. This course includes hands-on and written testing to obtain National Certification. Upon completion of this training a person is certified for two years and then re-certification is required. Operation Kids – Child Passenger Safety Basic Awareness Course – 4 Hours

This course was developed to create an awareness of child passenger safety and the importance of making child passenger safety enforcement and education a routine part of the daily duties of police officers as well as health care, EMS, fire and rescue personnel, and child care providers. Participants will learn how critical their role is in promoting child passenger safety and will learn to become more effective child passenger safety advocates and educators. Class participants will enhance their knowledge of the resources available for child passenger safety, including information sources, materials, and public assistance programs.

 

TOPS: Traffic Occupant Protection Strategies – 4 Hours

The education of law enforcement officers regarding the risks and hazards to the motoring public as well as the profession is a key element to creating understanding of the critical role the use of occupant protection equipment plays in reducing injuries and fatalities in vehicle crashes. This course provides the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to strengthen the ability of law enforcement officers and line supervisors to assist them in identifying and addressing occupant protection issues they are likely to encounter in the performance of their duties.

 

Special CPS Tech Course: Transporting Children with Special Health Care Needs – 16 Hours

This is an enrichment course for child passenger safety technicians who are interested in learning more about special needs transportation. Participants will learn about medical conditions that can impact restraint selection and will investigate and install specialized restraint systems.
